Contemplation
A place for curiosity and feeling without a predetermined destination from the past.
Contemplation is an invitation to become curious about patterns, experiences, memories, relationships, and questions that make up our life. Contemplation accompanies us wherever we go and whatever we do.
Instead of beginning with a specific problem that needs to be solved, we begin with attention.
What keeps appearing?
What does the field of experience feel like?
Is it possible to expand the focus?
How does our thought process feel like?
How does one particular thought feel like?
What might deserve another look?
Where and when is this dance in between experience, expectation, imagination, and feeling?
Exploring the Whole Person
An experience rarely is an orchestrated affair.
A memory carries an emotion.
An emotion may appear in the body.
A bodily sensation may lead to another memory.
A memory may become a story.
And that story may influence how we understand ourselves.
Therapeutic exploration allows these connections to emerge naturally rather than separating them into isolated procedures.
Our work may move across cognitive, emotional, bodily, imaginative, relational, and practical dimensions.
What Exploration Can Look Like
There is no single method that every session must follow.
Our work may involve:
Conversation and reflection
Imaginary storytelling
Exploring memories
Sitting
Paying attention to bodily experiences
Creative exercises
Authentic movement
Dream exploration
Improvisation
Revisiting personal narratives
Small experiential activities and ceremonies
Developing personally meaningful experiments
Some sessions may be quiet and reflective. Others may be exuberant and stormy.
The process develops according to what becomes meaningful through our work together.
