REMEMBER YOURSELF

Psychotherapy for Focus, Memory Habits, and Imagination

_____________

Our memories are not reservoirs of content. They are ways we live in the world. To redefine our relationship with our memories is to redefine ourselves. We don’t need to do anything special, only explore what it would take for us to live fully.

No one tells you, but your relationship with your memory systems and the languages you use to connect with these systems is the key to healthy aging. Your relationship with your memory is like your relationship with your partner. You don’t need to know a whole lot about them to fall in love, but once you start the relationship, most essential information needs to be processed and integrated, otherwise your connection will suffer.

Habits of Remembering and Forgetting

__________

We are a clinical research group that studies and provides psychotherapeutic and compensatory learning types of care for people who are concerned about the health of their memory systems. We work with the mind not to control it, but to understand its patterns and engage it with clarity and care.

Memory Without Diagnosis

__________

We do not diagnose. We explore. Memory is not a problem to be fixed, but a process to be understood.

We don’t diagnose early dementia but we go into the finest details of your existing diagnosis.  Our goal is to help you develop a healthy relationship with your memory,  a relationship that will allow you to forget everything you don’t want to remember, and at the same time count on the type of benefits and pleasures that our memory systems have historically been catering for our well-being, learning, and survival.

“The pleasure of remembering had been taken from me, because there was no longer anyone to remember with. It felt like losing your co-rememberer meant losing the memory itself, as if the things we’d done were less real and important than they had been hours before”

— John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
